New identity for NORR magazine
NORR magazine turns 15 years in 2020 and celebrates itself with a brand new identity including new modern logotype, playful visual elements and flexible fonts. (more…)
From ”greenhushing” to transparency
The Swedish brand Hestra is one of the leading international makers of gloves for sport and outdoor. Sustainability has been a natural part of this conscious, family-run company for many years, but as a well-kept secret to the outside world. In times when customers want to learn more about the brands they buy from – how can a company begin communicating what they actually do, without risking being perceived as just “jumping on the bandwagon”? In collaboration with NORR Agency, Hestra decided to sort it out through interviews with key personnel and an intense workshop. Next steps will now be to help Hestra define and formulate its strengths and challenges in a transparent manner, and to communicate this effectively both internally and externally.
Karen Hensel tests gear
This January, NORR Magazin’s Karen Hensel participated in the international jury to the Scandinavian Outdoor Awards. Over the course of two days, clothing and equipment from a variety of categories was put to the test until the jury had decided on their favorites. “I was particularly impressed by the backpack Future Labs 05 A from Bergans of Norway, which won the Sustainability Award. Together with the Finnish fiber producer Spinnova, Bergans has used material that comes from raw forestry by-products and which can be recycled. Not to mention that it looks cool and is comfortable!” says Karen.

To the mountains by train
In the winter issues of 365 and NORR Magazin, Gabriel Arthur travels by train to the backcountry ski touring gem Vatnahalsen, located along the Bergen Railway between Oslo and Bergen. Aside from this being yet another reportage on sustainable travel from us, the journey is also a part of NORR Agency’s environmental policy. We never travel by air when the destination can be reached in less than 12 hours by train – and we don’t mind traveling further than that.
A Guide to Sustainable Materials
In connection with the international textiles fair Performance Days in Munich, we’re launching Suston’s very first Material Issue. 64 pages that deep-dive into subjects like recycled wool and the sustainability tool The Higg Index, as well as a complete guide to all the most important materials in outdoor apparel. The issue will also be distributed at the large fairs ISPO Munich and OR in Denver in January 2020.
The NORR Nature Hour: Our weekly microadventures
Science says: Just 30 minutes in nature and our level of stress hormones declines. That’s why we at NORR Agency started a new, simple form of health promotion.
For one hour a week (or two hours every second week) we go outside to experience nature just around the corner. While on the clock!
SUP on Sickla Lake, climbing the highest “mountain” on Södermalm, discovering the mini nature reserve in the Årstaviken bay, picnicing in a charming allotment garden…
Beyond the positive effects on body and soul, the NORR Nature Hour happened to be a fantastic way to explore our own home town – to find pieces of urban nature that we didn’t know existed.
Our Stockholm: How to meet readers and find new friends
We invited 10 readers to visit us to see where NORR magazine is produced and experience Stockholm the way we love it. After 5 days, we had 10 new friends and a lot of new insights about our target group. (more…)
The NORR forest: 3,000 new square meters in Iglekärr
The protected old-growth forest north of Gothenburg is growing – thanks in part to NORR Green Partner’s support.
Since 2010, our NORR Green Partner project has been supporting the Naturarvet Foundation, which acquires unique Swedish old-growth forests with the aim of permanently protecting them. Each year we donate an increasingly large financial contribution, and with the donation from 2018 NORR Magazin has helped conserve a total of 25,480 m2 in Risveden, a large forested area north of Gothenburg. This is something that we hope that our readers – and other forest-lovers, of course – can enjoy when visiting these beautiful woods.
The first 13,000 m2 that we contributed to was hit by forest fires last summer. Even though beautiful, old trees went up in flame, forest fires are one of nature’s cycles. In time a rich, biological diversity will blossom here again.
In the years that followed, we have in cooperation with Naturarvet protected locations that are particularly worth a visit and a hike. We have wandered through these magical forests ourselves and encourage NORR’s readers to do the same.
From the parking at the north end of Iglekärr’s Nature Reserve, it’s just three kilometres to our three “lake properties” along lake Stora Iglekärr’s north end. Don’t miss the finely sculpted wilderness bench.
Then continue on to The Wholly Oak Tree with its large crown, which stands guard over an even larger area that we have donated money to. This is how Swedish forests looked around 6,000 years ago!
The Bonsai Pine is another umbrella-like tree that also watches over 3,000 m2 of woods, which include an old oak mixed forest and gentle, south-facing slopes.
Our latest addition is located in the adjacent Skarnhålan old-growth forest, with a lake property along lake Gravlången’s eastern shore. It is very beautiful place with its ancient forest, and a favourite stop for a coffee break. And, a perfect tent pitch site!
Join us on the journey.

365 days of adventure
Welcome to a new year, to be filled with adventures both large and small. 365 takes you to Johan Rockström’s “secret” climate think tank at the remote research station in Tarfala. Here, 25 world-renowned experts in several different fields met for five days to go ski touring and to discuss possible solutions to one of humanity’s greatest challenges.
“Climate change doesn’t only represent unprecedented risks, but unprecedented opportunities as well. As a global civilization, we now have the incentive and have begun taking the first steps towards redefining our relationship to the planet and to one another,” says Johan Rockström.
365’s Karen Hensel has been on her very first dogsled expedition and experienced temperatures and challenges that were at the limits of what her and the rest of the group could endure. We also explore the cooking arts of the southern Sami, tips for winter camping and much more.
The first issue of Naturkompaniet 365 is now on its way to subscribers and to stores.

Winter issue and NORR Spezial is here!
NORR’s latest winter issue takes readers to the Nordic world of snow and ice. In cooperation with Visit Finland, NORR Agency has also published a NORR Spezial.
With “Love the cold!” as its motto, the 124 page-thick winter issue takes readers on a medley of different adventures. A dogsled expedition in northern Norway with temperatures down to minus 40 degrees, ocean kayaking along Smögen’s snowy coast and a journey to Skellefteå’s annual Scandinavian Winter Bathing Championship. Fantastic photographs from photographers Felix Heintzenberg and Ole Jørgen offer unique insights into the survival strategies of Arctic animals in extreme winter temperatures. An adventurous and romantic weekend in a cozy cabin in Jämtland, and a visit to a classic ski resort in Härjedalen that makes the love for the cold grow even stronger.
Alongside NORR’s winter issue and in cooperation with Visit Finland, NORR Agency has also published NORR Spezial: Finnische Seenplatte – highlighting the most beautiful experiences in the Finnish Lakes District. NORR Spezial “Finnische Seenplatte” is free for all NORR subscribers and is also distributed by Visit Finland.
